Heart House
A 3-bedroom farmhouse-turned-ecological-retreat center, Heart House, located in Maryland, serves small groups seeking connection with
nature.
Although a functioning septic system is present, the owner abandoned
its use and chose a Clivus composting toilet system and a greywater system for complete nutrient recycling.
A 90-foot irrigation chamber, supplied by the greywater dosing
basin, waters flower beds, while an impulse sprinkler, drawing
compost liquid from a storage tank, fertilizes the surrounding
landscape. These systems protect the retreat’s 350 acres of farm and forest from pollution.
