Clear Lake Scout Camp
Located in Putnam Valley, NY, the Clear Lake Scout Camp (owned
by the Westchester-Putnam Council of the Boy Scouts of America)
sits within a small section of the largely undeveloped 1,400-acre
Clear Lake Scout Reservation. The purpose of the camp is to provide
weekend indoor camping facilities for scouts from the surrounding
communities.
Finished in 2001, the camp facilities include nine
cabins and three restrooms for scouts, as well as a smaller scoutmaster
cabin and restroom. Because of the camp’s remote location
and the Scout Council’s desire to be environmentally responsible,
each of Clear Lake’s four restroom facilities use Clivus
composting toilet systems. The reduced-size septic system for
greywater, which the composting toilets allowed, represented
a significant financial savings for the camp.
