Bunker Interpretive Center
Calvin College
The Bunker Interpretive Center serves as the headquarters of
the biology department at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Opened in the fall of 2004, the 5,000-square-foot Bunker Center
includes a laboratory classroom, multi-purpose room, and a display
hall. The building is also used by visitors and students as a
base for studying the college’s 35-acre eco-preserve.
In
order to conserve water, recycle nutrients, and earn LEED water
efficiency credits, designers equipped the building with Clivus
Multrum composting toilets and a greywater irrigation system.
The Bunker Center also includes a number of other green features,
including a photovoltaic power system, passive cooling and lighting,
and landscaping with native plants.
